An Evening with Sugato Bhaduri: Indian Mandolin Concert

Prepare to be transported by the soul-stirring melodies of Sugato Bhaduri, one of India’s most sought-after mandolin virtuosos, as he brings the timeless beauty of Hindustani classical music to life. Renowned as Mandolin Gandharva, Sugato has captivated audiences worldwide with his unique ability to blend Gayaki-ang (vocal style) and Tantrakari (instrumental style), creating a rich and immersive musical experience.

Having begun his musical journey as a child prodigy in vocal music, Sugato later dedicated himself to mastering the mandolin under the esteemed Pt. T. N. Majumder and was privileged to train under the legendary Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. With a deep reverence for the Maihar-Seni Gharana, Sugato’s music carries the essence of this illustrious tradition while pushing the boundaries of the mandolin’s expressive capabilities. His playing evokes the resonant tones of instruments like the Veena, Rabab, Sarod, and Sitar, creating a distinctive sound that seamlessly bridges the past and present of Indian classical music.

His artistry has been recognized with numerous accolades, including the prestigious Surmani title from Sur-Singar Samsad, the Gandharva Ratna award, and the Maharishi Award, presented in London by the Maharishi Foundation UK. Over the years, he has enthralled audiences at some of the most celebrated festivals and venues across India, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia—from the Tansen Samaroh and Ellora Festival to international music festivals in Germany, Switzerland, and Armenia.

This special concert offers a rare opportunity to witness Sugato’s virtuosity and deep emotional connection with his instrument. His crystal-clear taans, rhythmic intricacy, and profound interpretation of ragas promise an evening of meditative beauty and exhilarating musical exploration.

Adding to the evening’s cultural richness, Irfan Merchant of Merchant Ayurveda will present poetry, weaving words that reflect the deep spiritual and philosophical traditions intertwined with Indian classical music. His evocative verses will provide an additional layer of depth, making this a truly immersive artistic experience.

A fully stocked bar will be available, serving a selection of soft drinks and alcoholic beverages, so you can sit back, relax, and fully immerse yourself in this enchanting evening of music and poetry.

Join us for an unforgettable night of Indian classical music and poetry, where melody and verse come together to create a truly mesmerizing experience.
