Culture by the coast

As the birthplace of a both a king and our National Bard, South Ayrshire is rich in culture and heritage. Uncover our past at the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum, Burns Cottage, the striking ruins of Dunure and Greenan castles, the remains of Turnberry Castle where Robert the Bruce was born, the high-vaulted halls of Dundonald Castle and the magnificent clifftop Culzean Castle. View Alexander Goudie’s magnificent series of paintings inspired by Robert Burns’ famous poem ‘Tam o’ Shanter’ in Rozelle House or the Ronald Rae Sculptures in the park outside. Visit the changing exhibitions at Rozelle, the McKechnie Institute or Cutty Sark Centre.

Seaside strolls

Breathe in the sea air and soak up the coastal views with a relaxing wander along our proms at Ayr, Troon, Prestwick and Girvan. Enjoy traditional favourites as you go, with an ice cream or bag of chips. Or reward yourself afterwards with a hot bowl of soup or tasty snack at one of our welcoming cafes. If the countryside is more your thing, see our feature on Autumn Walks (link)
