Burns Cottage

Alloway is the birthplace of internationally renowned poet Robert Burns and a trip here would not be complete without a visit to the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum, which has the most significant Burns collection anywhere in the world. Your entry allows you to step back in time and visit Burns Cottage where the bard was born and lived as a child.

Alloway is also the setting of Burns’ most famous work Tam o‘ Shanter. Walk onto the legendary Brig o’ Doon and visit the Auld Kirk, where witches danced as Tam watched spellbound before fleeing for his life. Take a stroll around the magnificent landscaped gardens of the Burns Monument, or enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding area and the River Doon from the 70-foot-high monument.

Robert Burns Birthplace Museum ticket prices include entry Burns Cottage and Museum. Access to the Auld Kirk, Monument Gardens and the Brig o’ Doon Bridge is free.

The text of the images reads: The image of the Astoria is created by local Retro-inspired artist and photographer, Rona McSeveny. The Astoria Ayr poster was inspired by the local news that the Merlin Group had purchased the cinema in Robert Burns Square, and would reappropriate the original name of Astoria. "As a result, I returned the cinema back to its art deco glory", explains Rona. "Using the Astoria name is symbolic of the Art Deco period in 1938 when the cinema was built. Astoria ties the cinema back to an aspirational period of high art, design and entertainment for everyone".
