Dunure

Dunure

Picture-perfect Dunure is a must-see destination on the Ayrshire tourist trail. Clamber around the rocks beside an ancient castle that clings to a cliff overlooking a pretty harbour, enjoy the Dunure Labyrinth, or just relax with photo opportunities everywhere.

Dunure Castle was the original home of the Kennedys of Carrick, who ruled over much of South West Scotland. Its story is steeped in medieval history, from gory tales of intrigue, torture and daring escape, to royal visits from Mary Queen of Scots.

At the harbour, you can enjoy something to eat, or an ice cream as you soak up the sunshine. Fish, enjoy a dip in the sea, or just appreciate the unique atmosphere that inspired the crew of TV’s Outlander to transform Dunure into one of their most notable locations.
