Carrick’s Smuggling History

Contraband Cargoes from the Isle of Man

Explore our new exhibition at The McKechnie Institute and discover more about Carrick’s Smuggling History.

Until 1765, the Isle of Man was a storehouse of contraband. Based on a Manx merchant’s correspondence, this exhibition describes the cargoes of wine and spirits sent to customers in Carrick.
