Wish You Were Here: Postcards from South Ayrshire

Wish You Were Here: Postcards from South Ayrshire

Do you still send postcards? In the late 1800s, postcards were an affordable and essential means of communication—long before the convenience of sharing holiday snaps on our phones! Wish You Were Here celebrates the hundreds of postcards in the South Ayrshire Collection, featuring everything from familiar local landmarks to sunny days at bustling beaches. Visitors will have the chance to explore original postcards and large-scale projections, and perhaps even try their hand at designing their own postcard!

Family Fun
Tiny Tam the Rozelle Mouse is on his holidays, and he needs help designing and writing postcards to his creature friends around the world. Join us in the galleries for a fun and creative “Design Your Own Postcard” activity as part of our Wish You Were Here exhibition. Kids (and adults) can unleash their imaginations to craft colourful, personalised postcards and explore the magic of art and connection.

This image shows a close-up of a garden trowel stuck in the soil, with two small flowering plants nearby. The soil looks rich and freshly tilled, indicating a gardening or planting activity. The background is blurred but shows some greenery and hints of other plants. On the image, there are logos and text: "Living Knowledge Network" in white text on the left. "UNEARTHED The Power of Gardening" also on the left. A red vertical banner on the right says "BRITISH LIBRARY." This image likely relates to gardening, education, or environmental knowledge shared by the British Library's Living Knowledge Network initiative, promoting the benefits and power of gardening.
