VE80 South Ayrshire

Welcome to VE80 South Ayrshire

VE80 marks a shared moment of celebration on 8th May 2025—the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe. This significant occasion commemorates the Allied Forces’ acceptance of Germany’s unconditional surrender, bringing an end to World War II in Europe.

We will honour the service and sacrifice of the entire Second World War generation—from British, Commonwealth, and Allied forces, to evacuees and those who served on the home front.

There are six key elements to the VE Day Commemoration:

  • A Service of Celebration – Thursday, 8th May
  • The Lighting of Beacons across South Ayrshire – Thursday, 8th May
  • An Art Installation Honouring the Fallen – 1st to 10th May
Featuring at least 108 silhouette figures (inspired by the Standing with Giants installations), each linked to stories of South Ayrshire individuals who lost their lives in the conflict.
  • Community Activities and Street Parties – Thursday, 8th May
