This class will introduce the major Scottish sources used for family history research. These are civil birth, marriage and death records, the census and church records. How to use them, where to find them (online and in archives), the content they offer, and their strengths and limitations will be considered. Practical exercises will help you gain a sense of what the records contain and how to read them, and a case study showing the use of these records in building a family tree will be explored.

Hidden Histories of Ayrshire - Talk by Artist Stuart Murphy

Ayr
The image shows a woman standing backstage area of a theater. She is leaning casually on a wooden structure, smiling and looking to the side. Surrounding her are ropes, pulleys, and wooden beams, indicating the area may be used for stage rigging or set movement. The walls are brick, somewhat worn, and industrial in appearance, illuminated by a bright overhead light. The setting gives the impression of a behind-the-scenes look at a theater's technical area.
