Girvan Lights Up Hogmanay returns for its third year.
‘Strandline’ is an Illuminated Trail with twenty-two hand-crafted glowing sculptures installed throughout Girvan for one night only. Following a map, visitors will walk through Girvan to discover magical artworks with a playful celebration of the town’s nostalgic bucket and spade holiday heyday to the present day.
This year the team behind the project are paying homage to the infamous Fifth Dimension; a psychedelic Fun Palace designed by Keith Albarn (father to Damon Albarn of Blur) which delighted, intrigued and confused the town from its commission in the late 60’s until it’s dismantling in 1974.
The spirit of the Fifth Dimension will be recreated in the last stop on the trail, where visitors enter the transformed Wee School Art Space to discover a sensory world of light, sound and projection.
Strandline is created by CRAG, a Girvan-based community arts organisation. Resident artist David Powell works alongside a team of local and national artists, makers and a team of volunteers to handcraft and install the Strandline sculptures.
