Our Freedom: Then and Now

Our Freedom: Then and Now

This summer at The McKechnie Institute, the gallery will host a new exhibition as part of ‘Our Freedom: Then and Now’ project, led by Future Arts Centres.

The touring programme is a vibrant photography exhibition that brings together images from 60 locally-led projects from across the UK, marking 80 years since the end of the Second World War. A nationwide portrait of people, place and belonging, this exhibition reveals communities’ thoughtful and varied take on freedom.

The exhibition features images taken by Anneleen Lindsay, official photographer of the local project ‘Our Freedom Song’, delivered in 2025 by the Museum and Gallery service, created at the McKechnie Institute, Girvan, as part of the national programme. This will feature portraits of project collaborators from Girvan and District Great War Project.
