Highlight Talk – Dr Morag J Grant on Bagpipes on the Battlefield

Free Highlight Talk in the Robertson Room at the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum, Alloway.

Dr Morag J Grant on Bagpipes on the Battlefield. Until the First World War, soldiers in Scottish regiments of the British Army were often led into battle by a piper. This tradition, which has long fascinated journalists, artists, and of course the wider public, is often presented as an ancient practice with almost magical abilities to ‘inspire’ the Scots in combat. But what is the real story behind this tradition and its romanticised representations?

Booking for Highlight Talks at Robert Burns Birthplace Museum is recommended to guarantee entry. Due to limited capacity in the venue, any available seats will be allocated to attendees who have not booked on a first come, first served basis, meaning that entry cannot be guaranteed without booking.
