Ballantrae’s Smugglers Festival

Ballantrae’s Smugglers Festival

Ballantrae’s Smugglers Festival celebrates the rich and colourful smuggling history of this small Ayrshire coastal village. Frances Wilkins, author and social historian, spent years researching the real people and events behind Ballantrae’s smuggling past during the 18th and 19th centuries. The festival keeps these fascinating stories alive, introducing visitors to the smugglers, local characters, and customs officers who tried—and often failed—to stop them.

The highlight of this year’s festival will be the premiere of two smuggling films. There will also be a Smugglers Exhibition, two Smugglers Trail Walks, a Smugglers supper followed by live music, “Tasting the Contraband”, two book launches, activities for children and lots more.
