The Father of American Geology, cartographer, philanthropist, educational reformer and near contemporary of Robert Burns, William Maclure’s influence stretched far beyond the strata of the earth. This talk explores his journey from Ayr to the heart of American intellectual life yet he remains largely forgotten in the town of his birth.
