Auchincruive, Ayr

Auchincruive is a picturesque estate located in South Ayrshire, Scotland, that is home to a variety of walking trails. The estate covers a large area of countryside, with wooded areas, fields, and the River Ayr running through it.  

There are several different walking routes available for visitors to explore, ranging from easy strolls to more challenging hikes. The trails offer visitors a chance to experience the beauty of Auchincruive Estate and learn about its rich history and wildlife. The trails are free to use and are open year-round. A car park is available. 

The Oswald Trail 
The Oswald Trail is a 4.5km (2.75 miles) walking trail that takes you through the estate’s woodlands, riverside paths, and farmland. Along the way, walkers can enjoy stunning views of the River Ayr and explore the estate’s wildlife, including ducks, otters, and a variety of birds. The trail is named after the Oswald family who owned the estate in the 19th century. 

The Waggonway Trail 
The Waggonway Trail is a 4.75km (3 miles) walking and cycling trail that follows the route of an old railway line. The trail takes you through wooded areas and farmland and offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The trail is named after the railway wagons that used to transport coal and limestone from the local mines to the coast. 

The Three Green Knights Trail 
The Three Green Knights Trail is a 2.5km (1.5 miles) walking trail that takes its name from the three beech trees that are known locally as the “Green Knights”. The trail offers visitors a chance to explore the estate’s woodlands, riverside paths, and farmland. Along the way, walkers can enjoy stunning views of the River Ayr and explore the estate’s wildlife, including ducks, otters, and a variety of birds.
