February snowdrops are always the first sign that spring is coming soon to South Ayrshire, but it’s from March onwards that the region fully bursts into bloom. We’ve rounded up our standout spring displays so you can enjoy the thousands of crocuses, daffodils, bluebells and cherry blossom trees when you’re out and about in South Ayrshire.
Corsehill Gardens in Ayr has the most spectacular carpet of crocuses in March. Tucked in between the town’s Monument Road and the Old Racecourse, this gorgeous little park with its walled garden is one of South Ayrshire’s hidden treasures – be sure to take your camera for stunning springtime shots.
For dazzling daffodil displays from March, head to Culzean Castle and Country Park where the vast woodlands become a splendid sea of yellow. Robert Burns Birthplace Museum is also worth a visit.
In April, cherry blossom trees transform several Ayr streets into a ‘pink paradise’. Among the best are Park Circus, Bellevue Crescent, Maybole Road and Whitletts Road. You’ll also find beautiful blossom in Belleisle and Rozelle Estates, and in Queens Drive in Girvan.
We’re blessed with an abundance of bluebell woods in South Ayrshire, but in May you can stroll through some of the best at Dundonald Woods, Troon’s Fullarton Woods, the Cambusdoon Estate by the River Doon, Failford Gorge, Culzean and Rozelle.
Other springtime displays worth seeing are at Girvan’s Orchard Gardens and Community Garden.
