Troon beach is divided into two beach areas. Barassie shore opens up to the north, and Troon curves into a bay and is more protected to the south. The two are divided by Troon Harbour, which was originally a small fishing port, then home to the famous Ailsa Shipyard, but is now a busy marina, and a popular place for sailing enthusiasts.
The beautiful, sandy beach at Troon is backed by large dunes, and has a promenade with plenty of seating. There’s a play park and fun fair for children, it’s well served by cafes for refreshments, and the beach has some great rock pools or you can swim in the safe, sandy waters.
Royal Troon Golf Course is at the southern end of the beach, and has hosted the British Open Golf Championship on many occasions.
