Straiton

About Straiton

The village of Straiton sits on the River Girvan, and dates mainly from the 18th century. It lies tucked away in the hills between Kirkmichael, Dalmellington, Crosshill, and Maybole.

Nearby, you’ll find Blairquhan Castle, now a 5-star hotel, boasting beautiful woodland, landscaped gardens and a walled garden. The house was the historic home of the Hunter-Blair baronets, and was used as the location for the movie ‘The Queen’, starring Helen Mirren. You can take a short walk from the village to the falls of Tairlaw Linn, the first of a set of waterfalls on the Water of Girvan, close to Tairlaw Farm. At the middle section of Tairlaw Linn, the water splits into several shorter waterfalls, before making a spectacular drop into a deep plunge pool.
