Join Professor Emeritus Sir Tom Devine, one of Scotland’s foremost historians, for an in-depth interview exploring Scotland’s past.
Sir Tom Devine has written or edited around forty-five books and more than one hundred academic articles on Scottish history and related subjects, focusing primarily on the period since c.1600.
He has held professorial chairs at the Universities of Strathclyde — where he also served as Deputy Principal — Aberdeen and Edinburgh. He is currently Sir William Fraser Professor of Scottish History and Palaeography Emeritus at the University of Edinburgh, the oldest and most prestigious professorship in the field.
Over the course of his career, Sir Tom has received numerous honours and awards. He is the only historian to be knighted for services to the study of Scottish history and the sole university humanities scholar to have received the Royal Medal, Scotland’s highest academic accolade, inaugurated in 2000 by HM Queen Elizabeth II.
Several of his books have become international bestsellers, reflecting his long-standing commitment to combining rigorous historical research with accessible writing. He also contributes regularly to the media in the UK and internationally on historical, political and ethical issues.
