This website is run by Destination South Ayrshire. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
- change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
- zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
- listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.
Non-Accessible Content
While we have taken steps to improve accessibility, some parts of the website may still cause difficulties for some users. The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons:
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
- At 400% zoom and in mobile view (320 x 256 pixels), it is not possible to read all of the content within the cookie banner as the content overflows the visible part of the screen and cannot be scrolled [This fails WCAG 1.4.10 Reflow]
- After tabbing from the ‘Manage Cookie Consent’ banner, the keyboard focus can move to the page content behind it. This results in the focused element being completely hidden from view by the cookie banner [This fails WCAG 2.4.11 Focus Not Obscured (Minimum)]
- The What’s On pop-up calendar date selector is not accessible using a keyboard. [This fails WCAG 2.1.1 Keyboard]
Some images and icons may not yet have full alt-text or may contain alt-text that could be improved [This fails WCAG 2.4.4 Link Purpose (In Context) and WCAG 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value]
- At 200% zoom and more, the keyboard focus is not visible as it tabs through the hamburger menu whilst it is closed [This fails WCAG 2.4.7 Focus Visible]
Content from external third-party sites linked from our site may not meet accessibility standards and we have limited control over this
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
Using a content management system that supports semantic HTML, heading structure and ARIA roles
Ensuring adequate colour contrast for text and background
Enabling keyboard navigation and logical tab order across the site
Making sure images include alternative text descriptions where appropriate
Testing the site with screen readers and assistive technologies
Providing an accessibility-aware design process for future updates
Reviewing and updating our content regularly to ensure it remains accessible
