Alloway Railway Tunnel Art project was established to create one of Scotland’s largest murals through the Alloway Railway Tunnel. We have transformed an old, unused tunnel that had been defaced with graffiti into a safe, inspiring place, with a beautiful hand painted mural by one of the UK’s top muralists and visionaries, Chris Rutterford.
Proud of its Burns heritage, Alloway aims to offer an exceptional experience to residents and visitors exploring the idyllic village. The interactive mural in Ayrshire celebrates our heritage, providing a lasting legacy that captivates visitors and encourages repeated exploration.
By improving the cycle path through the village, the hope is to encourage more people to enjoy cycling and walking and experience all the wellbeing benefits this brings.
Uniting Art and Community
Join us on an inspiring journey as we tell some fascinating stories celebrating Ayrshire’s rich heritage which includes an amazing illustration of Robert Burns most famous poem, Tam O’shanter! By using unique storytelling though art, music, films and blogs you will be entertained by personal stories from local people.
Engaging Partnerships and Support
Backed by the Peoples Postcode Lottery, National Lottery Community Fund, Walking Scotland and Walk, Wheel Cycle Trust and South Ayrshire authorities, and collaborations with the National Trust for Scotland and Ayrshire College.
Get Involved
We are open 24/7, 365 days a year and it’s free to visit – whatever the weather. We’re always looking for volunteers to help us care for the mural and the horticultural areas. Get in touch on our website or email if you can help.
