Alloway Railway Tunnel Art project was established to create one of Scotland’s largest murals through the Alloway Railway Tunnel. We have transformed an old, dilapidated tunnel that had been defaced with graffiti into a safe, inspiring place, with a beautiful hand painted mural by one of the UK’s top muralists and visionaries, Chris Rutterford.
Proud of its Burns heritage, Alloway aims to offer an exceptional experience to residents and visitors exploring the idyllic village. The interactive mural in Ayrshire celebrates our heritage, providing a lasting legacy that captivates visitors and encourages repeated exploration.
By improving the cycle path through the village, the hope is to encourage more people to enjoy cycling and walking and experience all the wellbeing benefits this brings.

Led by artist Chris Rutterford, this community-driven project celebrates Ayrshire’s rich heritage and brings people together to breathe life into a living art masterpiece.
