Pinwherry and Pinmore

The small villages of Pinwherry and Pinmore are situated 6 to 8 miles south of Girvan, and are surrounded by the lush farmland of the Stinchar Valley.

The villages grew up where the River Duisk meets the River Stinchar, and look along the valley to Knockdolian Hill. Pinmore and Pinwherry were once stops on the main railway line from Girvan to Stranraer.

The ruins of 16^th century Pinwherry Castle stand in the grounds of Pinwherry House, and you can see them both from the road when you enter the village from Newton Stewart.

Around the villages, there are lots of walks and good fishing spots along the River Stinchar. There’s also a wealth of wildlife for enthusiasts to see, including red squirrels, deer, otters and badgers.
